Why do I need a website?
Many small businesses especially startups run a very tight ship – their main focus is limited to necessities and urgent matters, spending money when it really needed.
They might even believe that having social media presence is suffice for their business. Most startups spend money in traditional marketing methods like flyers, posters, the local advert in a paper. But the truth is, the only way to promote business is by building a website.
An effective website is the best marketing tool for your company — it houses important information, and your customers expect you to have one.
Still not convinced, here are the reasons why a business should have a website and online presence.
Reason #1: Your website works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year
Yes, you heard right! even when you are not working your website is working for you by communicating your prospects and services to thousands of potential customers online searching for your services.
Reason #2: Website acts like an anchor for your marketing
Before you even print a business card or spend a penny on flyers you should promote your business online by building a website.
Your marketing material, flyers, business cards, newspaper adverts should be used to drive traffic to your website – providing additional information to potential customers or to sell products online.
Reason #3: A website builds credibility
Nothing is more important than the ability to be found. If you don’t have an established online identity, then customers can’t find you. Not showing up in the search engines (or on the Internet at all for that matter) is one of the fastest ways to lose credibility as a business. It makes you and your company look dated, out of touch and untrustworthy.
Even if you’re fantastic at word-of-mouth marketing, you could be missing out on a ton of referrals. Happy customers are quick to share what they think about your business, but what about their friends who haven’t experienced your services yet? They’ll take to the Internet. And when they come up empty handed, you’ll have missed your chance for brand new customers.

If you think having a Facebook page or an online directory listing (like Yellow Pages) is enough to promote your business, you’re wrong.
Building your online presence through social platforms (while important) is not enough.
When you publish through, or rely on a third-party platform, you’re at their mercy. If the platform decides to close your account, change their policies or revise their programming, you might lose the ability to connect with your audience. Yet, when you run your own website, you’re in control of both the content you produce and the platform you maintain.

You know that great feeling you get when people recognise your work? Well, by having a website you can show off what you do and take pride in your work.
Reason #6: Customer Support
You can greatly reduce the cost of customer support by having a ticketing system, or even just an FAQ on your website. I can think of about 5 companies off the top of my head that streamline your customer service straight from your website.
Reason #7: email@example.com
I know there are other ways to do this, but by having a website you can have your own email firstname.lastname@example.org. It is more professional and easier to remember. I know you love your email@example.com , but it doesn’t really resonate with customers.
So…why do you need a website?
